What a great contest, and OH so many faves to choose from! We move into a new home (well, new to us!) next month so I am all about the address markers! My most favorite probably has to be Oval Birds on a Branch Plaque: http://atlassignsandplaques.com/ovalbirdsonabranch.aspx

And now for my GUEST STORY… I have what has to be the BEST ever.

My high school best friend and the maid of honor from my wedding has only been to visit my home twice in recent years, and I am afraid to bring her back.

The first time she came we enjoyed a nice visit and she left. Within minutes we had another knock on our door – the neighbor’s house was on fire! My husband trained as a fireman and EMT before moving into law enforcement so he went into emergency mode and took charge of the scene until firemen arrived. When all was said and done, everyone was safe but the home was uninhabitable.

My dear friend’s next visit was about six months later. Again we had a great time and then she headed home. This time we accidentally forgot to lock the front door as we said our goodbyes. (I know, I know… horrible, especially for a law enforcement family)… at about 2 a.m. we heard a noise and my normally placid little bichon doggy growled at our bedroom door – dear hubby grabbed his gun and went out to clear the house … to find a frightened 3 year old boy huddled on our bathroom floor!!! WHAT!?!? The child (whose father was ALSO a cop) lived three houses down and across the street from us. He’d walked out the back door of his home while sleep walking and it latched behind him. He knocked on all of the front doors along the street until he reached ours – unlocked. THE MIRACLE!?!? The house next door to us was still burned out, and just inside the unlocked door was a gaping hole in the floor and a perilous fall to the basement… had we locked our door this precious child could have walked into that home and fallen to his doom!

Needless to say, we’d seen enough excitement for a lifetime! The next time we had a play-date with my friend and her kids… it was at my grandma’s house!!!

I like the rectangle historical plaque! Hmmm…a guest story…we don’t really have many guests because we live out in the country! The only guests we really have visit are our family members and they aren’t very exciting. I like reading other people’s answers though!

Thanks for the great giveaway!

I have 3 boys and my favorite plaque is the No Girls Allowed (except mom) Plaque!
This week I invited a play date over for my son who is almost 3 years old. When the friend arrived my son happily greeted him and then went to his room and got his bed and would not come out!

I love the Oval Birds on a Branch!
My most memorable guest was my father in law. He arrived with a bus packed from top to bottom with furniture and hauling an old beat up pick up truck behind it. It took up my whole driveway and I ended up spending the next few days parking down the street. Every neighbor slowed down and stared as they drove by. What a long visit it was!

I like your “flowers on a rectangle” plaque the best, but I wish you had something more of a craftsman/mission style.

Thanks for the chance to win!

the pineapple! love them and they’re kind of a hawaiian symbol, when in rome :)

Jullee August 24, 2010 at 5:20 pm

I’m really into chickens so my favorite is The Hen House Plaque. I recently had my Father-in-Law from out of town staying with us. My two year old had met him a few times before but was too young to remember. It was really great watching her get to know her Grandpa.

LEE MULLIN August 24, 2010 at 12:57 am

I love the oval pineapple plaque! Pineapples are THE symbol of hospitality! My house is always open except when those pesky Johovah Witnesses try to stick their feet in my door! I always hide in the other room and yell, “come on in, I am naked and will be right out”…they usually turn around and run down the drive!

The Flowers on a Rectangle Plaque is my favorite!

I love your select of non-traditional address plaques! If I had to choose one for myself, it would be the Garden Cat Plaque. I am definitely bookmarking your website! Thank you.

We just had a very memorable guest recently… a friend of ours (age 26) stayed for a week, and didn’t shower once, even though we live in Texas, and its hotter than hades, and more humid than a rainstorm. We assured him, hinting gently that we had a large hot water tank, to take his time, and not worry about using all the hot water, and he replied, “Oh, its ok. My mom says I just need to give myself a sponge bath.” Yes. There you go.

The Garden Welcome Plaque is beautiful! My grandmother would love it!

I like the pine trees up north address plaque.
We open our home often to visiting missionaries and these welcome signs would add a nice warmth to their first impression of our place. Most of our visitors are great conversationalists, but our last one was an ‘odd old bird’. She barely listened to anything we had to say and just went on about her plans for her next stop….we gave her over to just being ‘quirky’…oh well, it takes all kinds!

I like the Rectangle Welcome Plaque.

As for a guest that was NOT so welcome, we had a very large spider make it into the house one time. She was so large (“she” because she had babies while in the house!) that when she jumped off the wall and hit the floor, you heard a *thump*, and then heard the *tick* *tick* *tick* of her feet as she ran across the floor!

*shiver*

Oooh, I stumbled across your blog and signs by accident, and I’m so glad I did. I’m an over achiever – so I’ve subscribed to your RSS feed, tweeted, made a post about you on my hibernating blog (maybe this will move me out of hibernation there) and announced the giveaway on my Facebook page.

Memorable guest story – an acquaintance from out of state was passing through on the way to visit someone else a state away. Well, her vehicle broke down outside of town and my hubby got her, her 2 kids & vehicle transported to our house. She got quite comfortable, and stayed several days while my hubby tried to fix her car for her. She was utterly uninterested in helping him out, either physically or financially. Then, she informed us that she had no money and her account was overdrawn. The following day, I come home from work to find a clawfoot bathtub we were going to refinish hauled into the middle of the front yard and her kids running around naked and playing a mud puddle they made in my flowerbeds. Mind you, we live in a city, not in the country.

Long story short, hubby managed to get her car running and we promptly sent them on their way (well as quickly as we could) and unplugged all the phones for the next week in case she didn’t make it to her next destination – which was not home – as she decided to continue on without any money and two kids in tow (despite our efforts to advise otherwise).

My favorite from everything is the Road King Clock. But the plaques are just awesome also. I would pick the Garden Welcome Plaque.

Carol Harrity August 19, 2010 at 6:46 pm

So many choices are available but I fell in love with Evergreen Welcome Plaque. We live in the Evergreen State, Washington, so it would be very appropriate.

CD August 25, 2010 at 4:23 pm

I would like it if you would carry a NO BOYS ALLOWED (EXCEPT DAD) plaque like your girls one. From an estrogen dominant house that would be fun.
I have no good visitor stories. Sorry!

My favorite is the Pineapple Welcome Address Plaque.

A guest story: An elderly gentleman invited himself over to our house to get help using the computer. Not only did he invite himself over in the first place, he also arrived 3/4 of an hour earlier than the agreed upon time, and lingered here 3 hours. Whew!

Judith Sharp August 19, 2010 at 2:31 pm

My favorite is the Rectangle Welcome Plaque. It’s elegant in it’s simplicity.
Story: While at Knott’s Berry Farm. I started talking with someone who was also waiting for her child to exit a ride, and we found we had a lot in common. I noticed the woman behind her listening in. The very next day, the second woman, needing her taxes prepared, became my client at the HR Block office where I worked. Small world, hmm…
